DOUGLAS hOCH -  Painter and Sculptor

Artist Bio - Doug Hoch

Meet the Artist, Painter, Sculptor, Designer at Bluestone Studios

Doug Hoch's interest in art began at the age of 9. His brother had been attending weekly oil painting
classes for 2 years, which their parents supported. He felt he could try his hand at the same medium
and be as successful and as creative as his brother. He was grateful his parents supported their creative
direction. The support and encouragement provided by his parents changed the direction of Doug's life.

His talent continued to unfold as he took art lessons for another five years. Doug continued to work with
oils and mixed media through high school and college.

Doug received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Kutztown University in 1975. He majored in
Sculpture and minored in Painting and Art Education. Through the seventies he worked in the art
department for a silk screen printer-fabric manufacturing company. He expanded his art through carving
and casting in bronze.

In 1976 Doug designed and built a large rigid foam carving of Mount Rushmore for a US
Bicentennial Celebration parade float.

In the spring of 2018 he painted a 22 ft. wide by 12 ft. tall mural of a sunrise for the Unity of Reading Spiritual Center in Temple, Pennsylvania. Doug painted an earlier mural (The Good Shepard) for St. Paul's church in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania in the 1990's prior to his retirement.

Doug's talent inspired his daughter, Jocelyn Hoch, and her partner Forrest Shafer, to explore their artistic talents in jewelry design. The two are well-known artists working as Ebb & Flow Creations based in Englewood, Florida. Their unique silver, gold, and gemstone wearable works of art are available as custom designs or ready to purchase pieces including rings, earrings, necklaces, and pins for both women and men.
